【開催報告】新潟大学研究統括機構国際シンポジウム～災害リスク軽減に向けた火山学の実践～
2025年10月、新潟大学中央図書館ライブラリーホールにて、「新潟大学研究統括機構国際シンポジウム～災害リスク軽減に向けた火山学の実践～」が開催されました。
火山学の理論と実践をつなぐことを目的に開催された本シンポジウムには、6大陸11か国から85名の研究者・技術者・学生が参加し、国際的かつ広域的な交流の場となりました。3日間にわたり、基調講演、研究発表、ポスターセッションに加え、GVRA（※）ワークショップ、観測機器展示、パネルディスカッションなどが行われ、火山災害の軽減に向けた最新の取り組みや今後の研究の方向性について多角的な意見交換がなされ、シンポジウムは盛況のうちに幕を閉じました。
参加者からは、新潟大学での交流や、本学の研究内容に直接触れられたことへの喜びの声が多く寄せられ、キャンパス滞在に加え、新潟への訪問も大いに楽しんでいただけたようです。
新潟大学研究統括機構災害レジリエンス部門では、今後も火山学の発展と社会への貢献を目指し、国際的な研究交流の場を提供してまいります。

In October 2025, the “Niigata University International Symposium: Volcanology in Practice” was held at the Niigata University Central Library Hall.
The symposium sought to bridge the theory and practice of volcanology, bringing together researchers, engineers, civil protection, risk reduction specialists, and students from Japan and abroad for lively discussions. The symposium attracted 85 participants from 11countries across six continents, providing a forum for international and wide-ranging exchange.
The program included five keynote speakers, 26 research presentations, and 20 poster sessions. Related events—such as the “Volcano Ready: Risk Reduction in Practice” workshop, an exhibition of volcano monitoring tools, and a panel discussion featuring volcano observatory members other risk reduction experts—provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions on the latest efforts to mitigate volcanic disasters and future research directions. The three-day symposium concluded on a high note.
For participants attending from outside the university, the event provided an excellent opportunity to interact directly with Niigata University faculty and students, and to learn about some of the research being conducted here. It appears that they thoroughly enjoyed not only their time on campus but also exploring the city and its surroundings too.
